Thank you for taking the time to find out more about this exciting role as RE and Citizenship Teacher at Ark Evelyn Grace Academy. We are delighted that you are considering joining our academy at such an exciting stage in our development. Ark Evelyn Grace Academy is a mixed, non-selective, 11-18 secondary school in Lambeth. The Academy opened in 2008 and moved into its award-winning building on Shakespeare Road in 2010. Evelyn Grace Academy was judged as ‘good’ by OFSTED in 2017 and behavior was said to be ‘exceptionally strong’.

 

In September 2017, I took over as Principal, having previously co-founded an ‘outstanding’ ARK school in North London: Ark Academy. I will work with staff at Evelyn Grace to secure its position as the school of choice in the local community. Together we will ensure that students secure the highest possible standards so they can go on and compete for the very best positions in their chosen career.

Job Description: RE and Citizenship Teacher

 

Reports to:               Head of Department

The Role

To provide outstanding teaching and learning to secure high attainment of all students  

To collaborate effectively with other members of the department to maintain outstanding practice

 

Key responsibilities
Provide a nurturing classroom and school environment that helps students to develop as learners
Consistently plan, resource and deliver lessons that allow stimulating and enjoyable learning to take place
Ensure that all students are given quality feedback in order to make rapid and sustained progress
Help to maintain/establish excellent standards of behaviour for learning across the academy

 

Outcomes and activities

Teaching, learning and assessment
In discussion with the Head of Department, plan and prepare engaging lessons based on agreed schemes of work
Teach engaging and effective lessons that motivate, inspire and improve student attainment
Use regular assessments to monitor progress, set targets and determine appropriate intervention
Maintain regular and productive communication with parents, to report on progress, sanctions and rewards and to relay other relevant information
Maintain accurate student data that can be used to make teaching more effective
In conjunction with the Head of Department identify the intervention needs of students and appropriate classroom strategies to improve attainment
Provide appropriate enrichment opportunities to enhance student learning

Qualification Criteria
Qualified to degree level and above
Qualified to teach and work in the UK

 

Experience

Essential
Experience of raising attainment in a challenging classroom environment
Evidence of continually improving the teaching and learning of their subject though classroom delivery, schemes of work and extra-curricular activities
Experience of teaching students of all abilities across key stages 3 and 4

 

Knowledge

Up to date knowledge of the RE & Citizenship curriculums at KS3 and 4

Understanding of strategies that effectively assess student learning, secure progress and enable students to achieve challenging targets
