Kitchen Porter
Reports to: Catering Manager
Key Relationships: Kitchen staff
The Role
· To provide an efficient, clean and organised wash-up cycle of crockery, cutlery trays and other goods in the wash up area.
· To ensure that the kitchen is kept clean and tidy on a daily basis, pots and pans cleaned, maintained and ready for use.
· To provide a safe working environment
· To ensure the smooth running of these areas you need good organisation skills and ability to avoid a backlog
Health and Safety:
· Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and guidance so far as it relates to this post.
· Report any hazards and or defects to the Catering Manager
· Ensure that when hazardous substances are used they are stored and disposed of appropriately and that risk assessments and COSHH assessments are up to date and available.
· To maintain the kitchen cleanliness in accordance to food hygiene and health & safety regulations, using the correct chemicals on the correct surfaces/appliance
· To ensure the bin area and all cardboards are placed in the correct recycle bins, and area kept clean & tidy
· To carry out the responsibilities of the post in accordance with all Health and Safety and relevant legislation, reporting any incidents or accidents, including near-misses, to the Catering Manager
· To ensure all main doors, contact areas and walls are washed down as directed by the catering manager
· To help the catering manager/chef as they see fit in the preparation of food
· To ensure at the end of the shift that everything is cleaned and the floor is swept and mopped up ready for the next day
· To receive stock and check quality and quantity against the delivery note/invoice.
· To deliver refreshments for special functions, and collect and clean dirty cutlery, crockery and other serving items after functions, as and when required. This may include some evening work
· To work as part of a team to ensure that all service requirements are met
· To attend training courses as required.
Other
· To undertake various responsibilities as directed by the Catering Manager
· Carry out any other reasonable duties instructed by the Facilities Manager, Operations Manager, Catering Manager or the Principal.

Person Specification
Qualification Criteria
· Right to work in the UK.
· Relevant Health & Safety qualification and/or willingness to undergo training as required i.e IOSH Safety Awareness
Experience
· Experience of working in a catering environment (essential)

· Ability to work on own or as part of a team
· Strong commitment to providing a high quality service
· Strong oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate tactfully and effectively with people at varying levels

· Flexible attitude towards work (able to work varied shift patterns and be on call for emergencies)
