Ark John Keats Academy is a growing school currently in the process of setting up a brand new Sixth Form due to open in September 2019. Therefore, we are looking to recruit excellent staff to join our expanding team and be part of the exciting next phase of our development.

We are now looking to recruit a Medical Administration Officer to join our team of staff in our secondary school. In this varied and important role you will:

 

  • Write and oversee medical plans and systems in place in the school
  • Work with the inclusion team to support pupils with medical or additional needs
  • Conduct interventions with pupils relating to their needs
  • Administer the health and safety/ accident log
  • Oversee the First Aid and medical provision for the secondary phase
  • Oversee the medicines inventory and the medical data systems in the school

Job Description: Medical Administration Officer (Term Time Only)

 

Reporting to:          Assistant Principal Inclusion

Start Date:               As soon as possible
Salary:                      Ark Band 5 (£19,160- £21,843 pro rata)
Hours:                      8:00am – 5:00pm
Work pattern:        Term Time Only, 39 weeks per year

Key Responsibilities

 

Pupils with additional health or welfare needs:

·         Liaise with parents and medical professionals to ensure medical plans are in place for all pupils that require them

·         Work with pupils with health concerns or additional needs – support to ensure appropriate attendance, maximum participation and continuance with learning

·         Meet with the Education Welfare Officer when appropriate to discuss attendance of pupils with additional medical needs

·         Provide assistance with the physical needs of pupils requiring this type of support

·         Work alongside the pastoral team to support pupils with emotional needs or issues with self-harm

·         Advise parents to seek support from/refer pupils on to other agencies as appropriate

·         Attend multi-agency meetings where required and feed into EHCP applications and plans

·         Work with allocated pupils who have EHCP/ SEND status on a regular basis as the key adult in their support plans

 

First Aid and Medical Provision

·         Ensure policies relating to medical issues are up to date and advise Senior Leadership Team and Governors accordingly

·         Lead on whole school First Aid provision – acting as main First Aider and coordinating support from other First Aiders; to have overview of First Aid training and ensure all up to date with relevant training

·         Determine what action to take with injury/illness at school, including determining whether pupils have a legitimate illness or genuine reason to be absent from school.

·         Maintain records of pupil health concerns and train staff as appropriate (e.g. use of adrenaline pens; procedures for asthma attack etc.)

·         Liaise with the School Nurse Service for vaccinations

·         Liaise with the operations manager and catering team to ensure pupils with dietary requirements are catered for

·         Assist pupils as necessary with personal hygiene routines

·         Advise pupils on health issues

 

 

 Health & Safety Administration:

·         Complete accident reports following incidents

·         Ensure Senior Leadership Team are informed of findings and recommendations arising from accidents

Person Specification: Medical Administration Officer

 

Qualification Criteria

·         Right to work in UK

·         A Nursing or Welfare Qualification (desirable but not essential)

·         A First Aid at work qualification or willingness to be trained

·         Helpful, approachable and positive nature and ability to stay calm and diplomatic under pressure

·         Sound judgement, especially relating to confidentiality and discretion.

·         Ability to communicate effectively with parents, pupils and staff

·         IT skills (need to be confident  using Word, Excel and Outlook systems)
