Facilities Officer

The Role

 

  • To maintain the academy premises so that they are in good general repair and reporting / rectifying any damage etc.
  • To ensure that the academy gives a positive first impression to all users of the building and that scholars, staff, visitors and contractors can work in it effectively and safely ensuring compliance with legislation and guidance as it relates to this post.
  • To provide a safe working environment
  • To ensure the smooth running of these areas you need good organisation skills and ability to avoid a backlog

Responsibilities

Security:

  • Assisting in the general security, making sure all windows are closed securely and doors are shut and locked securely in the main academy building and out buildings.
  • Ensure that all reasonable steps have been taken to prevent trespassers  onto the grounds 

 

Building & Grounds Maintenance:

  • Ensure that all lighting and heating are working effectively.
  • To check weekly that fire extinguishers and blankets are maintained
  • To “flush” all taps and toilets on a weekly basis and record
  • To check water temperature at sentinel taps on a weekly basis and record findings
  • Be aware of location of all stopcocks, gas meters and electricity meters and take readings as required.
  • Ensure that the plant house is tidy and that no flammable material is stored there.
  • Sweep yards, pick up litter and be responsible for the removal of all debris from external areas and all entrances.
  • Keep all hard surfaces free of moss and weeds
  • Report any hazards and or defects to the Facilities Manager
  • Make safe any hazards on site (internal and external)
  • Keep paths entrances free of snow and ice.
  • Prevent unauthorised / unsafe parking on the academy site.
  • Clean up bodily fluids, vomit and other soiling as soon as practical and safe.

 

Health and Safety:

  • Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and guidance so far as it relates to this post.
  • Assist in the supervision of contractors while working on the academy site operating a permit to work system as required.
  • Report any hazards and or defects to the Facilities Manager
  • Ensure that when hazardous substances are used they are stored and disposed of appropriately and that risk assessments and COSHH assessments are up to date and available.
  •  To ensure the bin area and all cardboards are placed in the correct recycle bins, and area kept  clean & tidy 
  • To carry out the responsibilities of the post in accordance with all Health and Safety and relevant legislation, reporting any incidents or accidents, including near-misses
  • To ensure all main doors, contact areas and walls are washed down as directed by the catering manager
  • To ensure at the end of the shift that everything is cleaned and the floor is swept and mopped up ready for the next day
  • To receive stock and check quality and quantity against the delivery note/invoice. 
  •  To work as part of a team to ensure that all service requirements are met
  • To attend training courses as required.

 

Other

  • To undertake various responsibilities as directed by the Facilities Manager and Operations Director

General

  • Monitor the work of contractors working on site
  • Carry out periodic cleaning of all internal surfaces and glass windows and doors as appropriate.
  • Remove all internal and external graffiti.
  • Mop up any leakages and spillages.
  • Replenish soap, toilet paper and towels etc.. in all WCs as necessary.
  • Ensure that all refuse is disposed of promptly and stored away from the main building.
  • Ensure there is a clear passage on all fire exits and fire escape routes.
  • To assist in the testing of fire alarms, refuge points and fire doors weekly
  • Report any defects of buildings, furniture, fittings and equipment to the Facilities Manager or Operations Director.
  • Helping with the setting up of the assembly hall and sports hall for whole academy events such as academy examinations, assemblies, lunch, lettings etc.
  • Receive and check goods and supplies as required and take them to the appropriate place for storage.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties instructed by the Facilities Manager & Operations Director
