lead the Science provision across the academy.
In 2012, Bolingbroke
Academy opened with the vision to create a centre of excellence. We are
extremely proud of our outstanding first set of GCSE results in English, Maths,
Science, Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) and Performing Arts. We are seeking an
exceptional and inspiring leader to join our pioneering school and contribute to
our school’s mission and lead our science team results to outstanding. This is

We are looking for a leader who is passionate about Science
and who can contribute more widely to the leadership of the school. Science is a popular subject at the Academy;
A-Level uptake and KS4 Triple Science numbers are particularly impressive.

The Role
· To develop, lead and manage the effective delivery of an excellent Science curriculum to ensure all our pupils make excellent progress.
· To lead a team of TLR post holders in all aspects of teaching, learning and assessment within the department.
· To collaborate effectively with other members of the department to ensure outstanding practice.
Key Responsibilities
· Be accountable for the progress of all pupils in Science across the school.
· Constantly improve the quality of teaching and learning within Science and, where necessary, hold teachers to account.
· Lead the design and implementation of the Science curriculum and assessment, including controlled assessment and examinations.
· Keep abreast of developments and innovations in the specification and teaching methods for Science.
· Be a role model of excellent teaching in the department.
· Observe, mentor and provide guidance to teachers in the department.
· Apply effective communication to build a high performing team.
Outcomes and Activities
Teaching and Learning
· Meticulously plan and teach engaging and challenging lessons that pave the way for success in school and life.
· Meet the needs of all learners by consistently planning and teaching carefully differentiated lessons.
· Set independent learning homework as appropriate and implement strategies to facilitate pupils/students learning outside of the classroom.
· Use regular, measurable and significant assessments of teaching.
· Complete all assessment, tracking and reporting on time.
· Closely monitor progress and attainment of pupils and use it to inform teaching.

· Ensure end of year assessments reflect each pupil’s overall level which is both externally valid and provides an accurate baseline for the next academic year.
· Analyse progress and attainment data to make data-driven changes to curriculum design, and pupil interventions.
· Work in collaboration with colleagues to ensure pupils receive high quality interventions.
· Through regular observation and feedback, mentor subject teachers to ensure excellent teaching and learning in all lessons.
· Ensure that classroom teachers are utilising best pedagogical practice for their subject.
· Conduct half termly evaluations of the quality of teaching and learning of individual classes and as a department, agree and implement changes to teaching and learning, holding teachers to account if and when required.
· Create and sustain a positive department culture, where teammates feel collectively supported and developed.
